We’re happy handing out discounts if Duskies get to breed and grow their population! 
This initiative is as simple but we believe effective. By incentivizing all fisherman to not keep trophy fish, but release them.  

At Walt, we believe that enjoying nature means earning the right to protect it. That is why we launched the Dusky Guardians initiative to help safeguard the Dusky Kob, one of South Africa’s most iconic and threatened sport fish.

For decades, big breeding Kob have been hammered by overfishing and poor management. These are the fish that keep the species alive.  These are the ones that lay millions of eggs each season and ensure future generations of Duskies. ​Most never get to breed even once because catch and release is rare. We can blame the deep sea operations or government all day, but real change happens only when everyday anglers decide to release their big catches and make a difference.

That’s where Dusky Guardians comes in. We want to make catch-and-release something worth celebrating, not just the right thing to do, but something that earns you real rewards.

Why It Matters

The Dusky Kob isn’t just another fish. It’s part of our childhood memories, our coastal heritage, and a species that needs a fighting chance. By releasing the big ones, we’re helping the next generation experience what we grew up with. ​We all have memories of strong fish, healthy waters, and the excitement of a great catch. By working together, practicing responsible fishing, and sharing knowledge, we can ensure that our future generation will have the chance to reminisce about their own adventures in pristine waters.

This project is driven by collaboration. We work with marine biologists, guides, and ​research organizations to ensure that what we share is backed by real science and data. The goal isn’t to point fingers, rather to start a movement of responsible anglers who care about the future of our fish.

Our slogan, “Committed to quality, loyal to nature,” isn’t just about our products. It’s about our responsibility. Every decision we make, from design to packaging, reflects that same mindset: to make quality gear while giving back to the places we love.
